چکیده

Survival of European honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies has been threatened over the past few decades as Varroa destructor become a growing concern on near-global scale. Prominent treatment methods have included synthetic acaricides amitraz, coumaphos, and tau-fluvalinate. Since widespread resistance to these compounds noted, this study sought investigate V. in Virginia. infestation levels apiaries located three geographic regions Virginia were monitored throughout 2018 field season. By autumn, all had mite populations above recommended threshold. The results screening with glass surface contact bioassays indicated no or These implications future control strategies responsible use may offer an additional option those battling aggressive ectoparasites.

Acaricide (pyrethroid) resistance in Varroa destructor

Pesticide resistance is the ability of a pest to survive normally lethal rates of a pesticide. The ability to develop resistance to a wide range of pesticides is a widespread phenomenon among the mites, so it was almost inevitable that varroa would become resistant against the commonly used acaricides such as the pyrethroids, taufluvalinate (Apistan) and flumethrin (Bayvarol). Studies found tha...

Practical sampling plans for Varroa destructor (Acari: Varroidae) in Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera: Apidae) colonies and apiaries.

The parasitic mite Varroa destructor Anderson & Trueman (Acari: Varroidae) is arguably the most detrimental pest of the European-derived honey bee, Apis mellifera L. Unfortunately, beekeepers lack a standardized sampling plan to make informed treatment decisions. Based on data from 31 commercial apiaries, we developed sampling plans for use by beekeepers and researchers to estimate the density ...
